Wireless chargers must be able to protect the product during high-power, fast charging. The Qi logo is awarded to products certified according to the WPC-Qi standard. STMicroelectronics announced on the 7th that it offers a solution that supports the authentication of Qi-certified chargers.

“We provide a secure way to verify the authenticity of a Qi-certified charger before increasing charging at power levels above 5W,” said Laurent Degauque, Marketing Director, Secure MCU Division, STMicroelectronics. “Compliant with the WPC-Qi specification v1.3, our solution is based on ST’s secure element that is automotive qualified to AEC-Q100 and Common Criteria (CC) EAL5+.”

The STSAFE secure element comes preloaded with the official Qi certificate and provides authentication using the latest cryptographic techniques. This ensures clear charger identification and ensures strict verification of the authenticity of Qi-certified products. As an official WPC manufacturer certification service provider, ST is authorized to create and sign official Qi charger certificates. These certificates include the charger's Qi ID and charger manufacturer information.

ST's consumer-grade 'STSAFE-A110 (4×5mm SO8N and 2×3mm UFDFPN8)' and automotive-grade 'STSAFE-V110 (TSSOP20)' products are loaded in the secure ST factory and provide a ready-to-use solution, relieving charger manufacturers of the burden of securely loading sensitive data. STSAFE is a device certification that protects branded products and network-connected assets and is already being used in a wide range of consumables and peripherals.
