Wonik Materials' second-quarter 2021 business performance exceeded KRW 70 billion in quarterly sales for the second time ever, driven by strong sales of specialty gases driven by increased customer demand.

Wonik Materials announced its second-quarter 2021 financial results on the 9th. According to the results, consolidated sales reached KRW 72.4 billion, a 7.2% increase year-over-year, and operating profit reached KRW 12.2 billion, a 4.8% increase year-over-year. Net income was 22.3 billion won, a 978.5% increase over the same period last year.

Sales achieved the second highest quarterly sales since recording KRW 73.5 billion in the third quarter of 2020, and net income for the period was positively impacted by the reversal of impairment losses previously recorded when the stock price of affiliate Wonik Cube fell, due to the rise in the stock price, which had a positive impact on non-operating income.

In the second quarter, sales of related products were brisk as demand for special gases increased due to the boom in business of customers such as Samsung Electronics.

In particular, 3D NAND-related products such as Xenon are experiencing shortages, and prices are also rising, leading to increased sales and profits.

Sales of related products are expected to continue to increase, with major customers expected to remain operating at a tight level in the third quarter, and record growth is expected to continue.
