The National Research Council of Science and Technology (Chairman Bok-Cheol Kim, NST) held a temporary board meeting at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on August 13 and announced that it had appointed Dr. Myeong-Ho Myung as the new president of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI).


The new president, Myeong-Ho Myeong, graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1981 and received his master's and doctoral degrees from the same university.

Since joining KERI in 1985, he has served as the head of the Electric Environment Transmission Research Group, head of the Next Generation Power Grid Research Center, head of the Future Strategy Office, head of the Research Department, and head of the Testing Department.

Externally, he has served as the Korean representative for the electrical environment sector of the International Conference on Large-Scale Electricity (CIGRE), a member of the Open Management Committee of KEPCO, and a director of Gyeongnam Technopark. He is currently a director of the Korea Energy Society, a member of the Korea Technical Standards Committee of the Korea Electrical Association, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association.

On the afternoon of the 13th, Kim Bok-cheol, Chairman of the National Research Council for Science and Technology, presented a letter of appointment to the newly appointed Director Myung-ho Myeong. Director Myung's term of office will be three years, beginning August 17, 2021.

KERI plans to hold its director's inauguration ceremony on the 18th. The event will be held online, taking into account social distancing measures imposed due to COVID-19.
