ETRI Unveils 121 New Technologies to Promote Commercialization by SMEs
Published2021.08.18 09:55Domestic researchers are actively promoting technology commercialization for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by disclosing technologies under development in advance. This advance disclosure of the latest information and communications technology (ICT) is expected to significantly enhance the industrial competitiveness of SMEs.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on the 18th that it will implement the "ETRI Technology Advancement System" in 2021. This marks the 14th year of the system, which ETRI first implemented as a government-funded research institute in 2008.
The 'Technology Preview System' provides technology users with information on the characteristics, marketability, and potential application areas of ETRI technologies currently under research and development. This is ETRI's unique support system for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that helps companies successfully commercialize their technologies by disclosing essential information to them in advance.
The latest information disclosed through the Technology Pre-Notice System is used by various companies in the ICT new industry and convergence fields to discover ideas and plan new businesses, and thus receives a great response from companies every year.
The technology preview system is an example of ETRI's commitment to supporting the commercialization and growth of technology for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in addition to research on core and original technologies.
The 2021 technology preview provides 121 pieces of cutting-edge ICT information, including "autonomous driving perception and prediction artificial intelligence technology," which is scheduled to be developed this year, divided into six fields: artificial intelligence, communications media, intelligence convergence, ICT creativity, convergence research, and regional centers.
In addition, we will introduce ETRI's various programs to foster and support the growth of ICT companies, including R&D cooperation with ETRI, technology transfer/patent licensing, research personnel support, and research facility and equipment support.
Park Jong-heung, Head of the Small and Medium Business Commercialization Division at ETRI, said, "The Technology Pre-Notification System can be extremely useful for helping Korean companies overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19 and seize growth opportunities. We will actively support many companies to actively utilize the technologies disclosed this time and successfully commercialize them, while also expanding their collaboration with ETRI."
ETRI plans to distribute technology preview materials through its website to inform more companies about the technologies currently under development, and will continue to operate a technology consultation window along with constant online information provision.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
