SKT to build Goyang Drone Anchor Center, scheduled for completion next year

Sharing 'T Livecaster' business experience with resident companies


On the 19th, SK Telecom signed a business agreement with the city of Goyang to develop infrastructure to revitalize the Korean drone industry. Goyang City will invest 14 billion won by September of next year to build the "Goyang Drone Anchor Center," a three-story building with one basement level, on a 4,524-square-meter site near Hwajeon Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. The center will house an indoor drone flight experience center and drone-related companies and organizations.

SKT will leverage the technology and operational experience it has accumulated with its high-definition real-time video surveillance solution, "T Livecaster," to provide mentoring to companies and organizations planning to move into the "Goyang Drone Anchor Center" to help them overcome potential technological barriers during the development phase. Furthermore, the company plans to collaborate with Goyang City to identify new business models necessary for commercialization.

T Livecaster is a solution that allows remote control of drones via mobile networks while simultaneously transmitting and receiving high-definition video in real time. It is currently being used by numerous public institutions, including the National Fire Agency, National Police Agency, National Forensic Service, and South Chungcheong Province, as well as over 60 companies, including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea Western Power, and Samsung C&T. Last May, we launched the 'T Livecaster Plan', a subscription service for small and medium-sized enterprises and research institutes.

SKT will provide drone-using companies with its mission computer software module, 'T Livecaster TX', a small computer mounted on drones, to enable them to utilize SKT's proprietary high-definition, low-latency streaming technology in their ground control systems (GCS).

In particular, 'T Livecaster' can be linked with not only domestically produced drones equipped with Pixhawk flight controllers (Pixhawk FC), but also DJI drones and American AUTEL drones, so it can be utilized not only by drone manufacturers but also by companies that provide services utilizing commercial drones.

SK Telecom Smart Factory CO (Company) Director Choi Nak-hoon said, “In the future, we will contribute to the revitalization of the domestic drone industry by providing total solutions necessary for drone services, such as not only drone video control but also spatial information platforms and solar power generation facility management.”
