On the 30th, STMicroelectronics released the 'MasterGaN3 and MasterGaN5' integrated power packages, which support up to 45W and 150W applications, respectively, to enable easier transition to high-efficiency wide-bandgap (WBG) technology.

Following MasterGaN1, MasterGaN2, and MasterGaN4 for 65W to 400W applications, the two newly added devices provide additional flexibility to select the optimal GaN device and driver solution when designing switching mode power supplies, chargers, adapters, high-voltage PFC (Power-Factor Correction), and DC/DC converters.

MasterGaN3's GaN power transistors are suitable for soft switching and active rectification converters because they provide asymmetric on-resistances (Rds(on)) of 225 mΩ and 450 mΩ. MasterGaN5 provides 450mΩ Rds(on) for both transistors and is suitable for topologies such as LLC resonance and active clamp flyback.

Like other MasterGaN products, both devices are equipped with inputs compatible with 3.3V to 15V logic signals, allowing for easy connection to external devices such as host DSPs, FPGAs, MCUs, and Hall sensors. They also feature integrated protection functions, including low-side and high-side UVLO (Undervoltage Lockout), gate driver interlocking, overtemperature protection, and shutdown pins.

The dedicated boards 'EVALMASTERGAN3 and EVALMASTERGAN5' feature circuitry for generating single-ended and complementary driving circuits. Additionally, it is possible to apply separate input and PWM signals, add external bootstrap diodes to support capacitive loads, and insert low-side shunt resistors for peak current mode topologies. A dead-time generator is also provided.

MasterGaN3 and MasterGaN5 are currently in production in a 9mm × 9mm GQFN package optimized for high-voltage applications, with a creepage distance of 2mm between the high and low voltage pads. The price is $6.08 for '3' and $5.77 for '5' for a purchase of 1,000 units.
