Adjustable operation parameters, provides a stable topology


STMicroelectronics announced on the 15th that it has released the STEVAL-NRG011TV board, which enables designers to quickly implement 200W digital power supplies and adapters for LED and OLED TVs to exceed strict energy efficiency and power saving regulations.

Based on ST’s STNRG011 digital Power-Factor Correction (PFC) and resonant LLC converter, the STEVAL-NRG011TV provides a proven, stable topology that allows for the configuration and fine-tuning of operating parameters for performance optimization.

This board does not require coding because the digital control algorithm is permanently programmed into the controller's ROM and a programmable non-volatile memory (NVM) with a complete set of parameter samples is provided.

The STEVAL-NRG011TV provides a 12V/4A regulated output to power the TV controller and audio subsystem, and a 65V/2.5A output to support LED backlight. Because it provides a wide AC input voltage range of 90V to 264V, it can be used with all power supplies and adapters released worldwide.

It achieves a total load efficiency of over 91% at 115V and 230V AC, with no-load main power consumption of less than 120mW, exceeding the current highest level of eco-friendly design specifications.

STNRG011, the core of the board, provides a highly integrated solution for high-efficiency PFC converters. The chip incorporates an 8-bit CPU subsystem, control logic such as PFC and LLC event-driven state machines (SMED), an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), high-voltage startup circuits, power management, and protection functions.

It can handle communication with external EEPROM, as well as remote monitoring and software updates, via a 2-wire interface. Housed in a 20-pin SO20 power package, it simplifies the board layout and reduces size. The STEVAL-NRG011TV is currently available for $195. The STNRG011 is in mass production and costs $1.56 for a purchase of 1,000 units.
