Schneider to Build Data Center at University of Birmingham in Dubai

Schneider Electric (Korea Branch Representative Kim Kyung-rok), a global leader in digital innovation in energy management and automation, is supporting learning and research by building a data center at the University of Birmingham Dubai.
Schneider Electric announced on the 5th that it recently built an eco-friendly data center at the University of Birmingham in Dubai.
The data center was built on Schneider Electric technology and implemented by US systems integrator CDW. Connected to the University of Birmingham's UK campus, the data center enables rapid data exchange between the two campuses and saves up to 15% in energy consumption.
The University of Birmingham Dubai's new facility is a smart campus equipped with technology to deliver innovative education. Students and faculty will utilize next-generation wireless connectivity, WiFi 6, to support learning and research at both the main campus and its UK campuses.
Schneider Electric's technology spans both hardware and software. This includes Rack PDUs for power management of connected loads as well as real-time remote monitoring of power usage. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides battery backup power in the event of a sudden power loss, and Easy Rack Mount simplifies data center design and maintenance.
Additionally, Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure IT software offers numerous features to improve data center operations. The software monitors, manages, and optimizes energy usage across servers, cooling, and electrical equipment, either on-site or remotely. Built-in cybersecurity features perform vulnerability assessments on all devices within the data center, reducing the risk of security breaches.
Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IT, a cloud-based software, anonymously compares data from your data center infrastructure with thousands of other data center sites, analyzing and identifying improvements to improve equipment performance, efficiency, and health.
“Our new building has been designed as a smart campus, incorporating flexible, cutting-edge technologies that enable innovative and multicultural teaching and learning,” said Professor David Sadler, Principal of the University of Birmingham Dubai. “The school aims to provide students with a new educational experience and to establish a data centre that will be ready for the future.”
He also said, "This data center will serve as a platform for us to build our IT systems, considering performance, efficiency, and future-proof sustainability. We are pleased to partner with Schneider Electric and CDW to provide a superior technology platform that will enhance the campus experience for faculty, staff, and students."

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers.
