Samsung Electronics will host the 'Samsung AI Forum 2021' from November 1st to 2nd.

The Samsung AI Forum, now in its fifth year, is a venue for technological exchange, inviting world-renowned artificial intelligence (AI) scholars and experts to share the latest AI research findings and explore future research directions.

This year's forum will be held online, following last year's, and will be live streamed on Samsung Electronics' YouTube channel.

You can apply for the forum from the 6th until the day of the event on the Samsung AI Forum website (https://saif-2021.com/). Applicants will be able to receive schedule information and submit questions online.

The first day of the forum, hosted by the National Institute of Advanced Technology, will discuss AI technologies in various fields, from basic AI research to applied research in new materials and semiconductors, under the theme of "AI Research for Tomorrow."

Following the opening remarks by Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Kim Ki-nam and the keynote speech by Professor Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal, Canada, technical sessions will be held on △Scalable and Sustainable AI Computing, △AI for Scientific Discovery, and △Reliable Computer Vision.

In the technical session, global scholars and research leaders from the National Institute of Technology will share the current status and vision of AI research. AI startups will present and share the latest AI technology trends and practical business application models.

The Samsung AI Researcher of the Year award ceremony, designed to recognize outstanding emerging researchers in the AI field, will also be held. Established last year, the Samsung AI Researcher of the Year Award is open to any domestic or international researcher under the age of 35. Samsung Electronics plans to announce this year's winners on November 1st.

Professor Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal and President and CEO of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology Jin Kyo-young will co-chair this forum. Professor Bengio is a world-renowned scholar who received the Turing Award, often called the Nobel Prize in AI, in 2018. Last year, he was appointed Samsung AI Professor.

Professor Yoshua Bengio said, “We will prepare the Samsung AI Forum to become a place to discuss ways for AI to become a technology that contributes practically to our lives in the future.”

The second day of the forum, hosted by Samsung Research, will be themed "AI in a Human World," and will share the future direction of AI technology development that will have a significant impact on our lives.

Samsung Research President Seung-Hyun Jun will give a welcoming address, and Harvard University Professor Leslie Valiant, who created PAC learning, the foundation of machine learning, and won the Turing Award in 2010, will give a keynote speech. Additionally, technical sessions will be held on realistic telepresence, interpretability of machine learning models, and understanding of materials using deep learning.

Daniel Lee, Vice President and Head of Samsung Research's Global AI Center, will lead a panel discussion with speakers on "Future Outlook and Considerations in Each AI Field," and time will also be set aside to present the latest research status of Samsung Electronics' domestic and overseas AI research centers.
