ASML's third-quarter 2021 operating results continued their strong performance, increasing 32% year-over-year. Notably, Taiwan surpassed Korea to record the highest regional sales share.

ASML announced its third-quarter 2021 financial results on the 20th. According to the results, sales reached €5.241 billion, a 32.4% increase year-over-year, and operating profit reached €2.711 billion, a 44.1% increase year-over-year. Net income increased 63.8% year-on-year to 1.74 billion euros.

This performance increase is attributed to increased sales of EUV equipment and rising prices of EUV equipment due to strong demand growth compared to last year.

The gross profit margin for the third quarter reached 51.7%, and the net booking revenue for the third quarter was 6.2 billion euros.

The largest sales segment was EUV, recording 54%, and the final consumer segment was distributed as 61% logic and 39% memory, with the memory segment showing an 11%p increase compared to the previous quarter.

By region, Taiwan surpassed Korea to account for 48% of sales, followed by Korea at 33%, the US at 10%, China at 10%, and Japan at 1%.

By equipment, there were 15 EUV units, 21 ArFi units, 6 ArF dry units, 30 KrF units, and 7 I-Line units.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, sales are expected to reach 4.9 billion to 5.2 billion euros, with a gross profit margin of 51 to 52%.

The company plans to implement a new share repurchase program worth €9 billion by December 31, 2023.

Peter Wennink, CEO of ASML, stated, "Demand remains strong. The ongoing digitalization trend and the semiconductor shortage are driving current and future demand for memory and all logic nodes, requiring ASML to increase production. ASML expects fourth-quarter revenues of €4.9 billion to €5.2 billion, with a margin of 51% to 52%. R&D expenses are €670 million, and SG&A expenses are €190 million. For 2021, we expect growth of 35%, consistent with our previous forecast."
