The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Lee Jeong-hwan), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, has sought to coexist with the local community through communication and R&D.

On October 25, the Materials Research Institute held a ‘Mutual Growth Exchange Meeting’ with the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Gu Ja-cheon) Mutual Growth Economy Committee in the seminar room of the main building.

The Changwon Chamber of Commerce's Mutual Growth Economy Committee, which visited the Materials Research Institute on this day, comprised of approximately 20 members including Changwon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Gu Ja-cheon. They watched a promotional video for the institute, introduced the institute's key research areas, discussed the direction of carbon-neutral and ESG-centered economic activities, and established a direction for industry-research cooperation to promote mutual growth between companies and local communities.

In March, Changwon Chamber of Commerce launched four subcommittees: the Mutual Growth Economy Committee, the Regional Economy Committee, the Local Policy Committee, and the International Cooperation Committee, with the aim of supporting local communities struggling due to the spread of COVID-19 and revitalizing the local economy. Among these, the Mutual Growth Economy Committee is carrying out activities such as △ mutual growth between large, medium, and small businesses and the local community, labor, culture, and arts sectors, and △ building a network to vitalize mutual growth between businesses and local communities.

Lee Jeong-hwan, the president of the Korea Materials Research Institute, said, “Communication with companies that support the local economy is the natural role of the Korea Materials Research Institute, a government-funded research institute located in the region.” He added, “At this point in time when the entire nation is working together to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, we will do our best to communicate more with companies and join forces to devise ways to lead corporate growth and a win-win economy.”
