Marking the 45th anniversary of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, President Myung Sung-ho stated that they would “achieve bottom-up innovation” and emphasized the establishment of a solid organizational culture to cope with rapidly changing external environments.

The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) held an online founding anniversary ceremony with all employees on October 28 to mark its 45th anniversary. This event was the first founding anniversary ceremony since the inauguration of the 14th President, Myung Sung-ho, last August.

In his commemorative address, President Myung Sung-ho stated, “Up until today, exactly 77 days after my appointment as President, I have met with many officials from local governments, related organizations, and companies to share KERI’s new aspirations. In this process, I spent meaningful time in reflection and contemplation to refine the direction our institute should take in the future.” He added, “As the head of the institution, I intend to soon establish an institutional operation plan to present a vision for the next three years and select key projects that are the core of the institute’s business plan, thereby building a new future together with the staff through shared understanding.”

In addition, Director Myung expressed his gratitude for the dedication and efforts of the employees, stating, “Even amidst the unprecedented national crisis of COVID-19, our institute is fully demonstrating the strengths of KERI, which is ‘quiet yet strong,’ by achieving a rise of over 162% (2.4 billion to 6.3 billion) compared to the previous year’s technology transfer performance.”

He continued, “Building a solid organizational culture based on bottom-up innovation will serve as a powerful driving force enabling KERI to sail smoothly against the waves of rapidly changing internal and external environments,” and urged, “Employees must be able to express their thoughts without hesitation, and I hope that managers will create an environment where these voices can be listened to and conveyed through leadership of listening and persuasion.”

Finally, Director Myung concluded his founding anniversary address by saying, “I hope that you will constantly contemplate and do your best in your respective duties with a new and broad perspective so that our dream of becoming ‘KERI, a world-class research and development and testing and certification institution leading the future era of electrification’ can be realized.”
At the ceremony held on this day, the awards for the National Science and Technology Research Council Chairman's Award, Long Service Award (10–40 years), Exemplary Employee Award, and Integrity Award were presented together.

Meanwhile, KERI is a government-funded research institute specializing in electricity under the National Science and Technology Research Council of the Ministry of Science and ICT, established on December 29, 1976, to promote the electric industry and power business in South Korea. Currently, in addition to its headquarters located in Changwon, Gyeongnam, it has three regional organizations (Ansan, Uiwang, and Gwangju). It has a workforce of approximately 800 people and is organized into 10 divisions, 2 departments, 2 research groups, 22 centers, and 27 offices.

Major research and development fields include power grids and new/renewable energy, power equipment, research and industrial application technology in electrophysics, power semiconductors, electrical materials technology such as batteries and nano, and electrical medical devices. Furthermore, as an internationally accredited testing and certification body for power equipment, it acquired full membership in the 'Short Circuit Testing Liaison (STL)' in 2011. Based on world-class facilities and professional personnel, it makes a significant contribution to the expansion of overseas markets for domestic power equipment manufacturers by ensuring that the institute's test reports are accepted in global markets.
