The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI, President Kim Young-sam) and RF Systems Co., Ltd. (CEO Han Ki-woo) have joined hands to develop core components for next-generation mobile communications, including 5G, 6G, and satellite communications.

On the 14th, KETI signed an MOU with RF Systems for the 'Establishment of a KETI-RF Systems Joint Research Center' at its headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to actively cooperate in the development of wide-angle antenna systems, technology transfer, verification, and fostering of small and medium-sized enterprises.

RF Systems is a company specializing in system design and special bonding technology. It was the first in Korea to develop core product bonding process technology that takes RF (radio frequency) characteristics into account, and possesses manufacturing technology for radar and wireless communication devices, environmental control devices, and satellite antennas.

KETI is developing cutting-edge material and component technologies that will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and in the communications field in particular, it is continuously pursuing applications in civilian/military radar weapon systems and 5G base station antenna systems through the development of 5G beamforming technology.

Through the MOU, the two organizations agreed to: △ Planning projects for joint development of 5G, 6G, and satellite communication components; △ Supporting corporate growth through technology exchange with RF Systems and its affiliates (RFHIC, RF Materials); △ Promoting technology transfer through the provision of technology by RF Systems and its affiliates; and △ Other mutual development. They agreed to cooperate with each other on matters requiring exchange and cooperation.

The joint research center being built by the two organizations is scheduled to open within the RF Systems Yongin Research Center in January of next year, and will primarily focus on researching the wide-angle antenna system currently under joint development.

KETI President Kim Young-sam said, “5G/6G/satellite communication technologies are expected to be applied to various fields such as autonomous driving, national defense, and communications as the foundational technologies of future advanced industries.” He added, “Through the establishment of this research center, we will develop core components in the next-generation mobile communications field and actively transfer commercializable technologies to contribute to the discovery of new businesses and the development of related industries.”
