The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Lee Jeong-hwan), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Gyeongsang National University (President Kwon Soon-ki) are embarking on mutual growth between academia and research through technology cooperation.

On the 14th, the Korea Institute of Materials Science held a signing ceremony for a business agreement with Gyeongsang National University to promote academic-research cooperation projects and pledged to do its best to strengthen academic-research cooperation.

Gyeongsang National University is one of the 10 national flagship universities representing South Korea, and it is the largest university in the southern region, launched last March through the merger of Gyeongsang National University and Gyeongnam Science and Technology University.

Through industry-academia collaboration with public institutions in Jinju Innovation City, Jinju-Sacheon Aviation, Changwon Machinery, Tongyeong Offshore Plant, and the Miryang National Nano-Convergence Industrial Complex, it is establishing itself as a leading prestigious institution in the Gyeongnam region, transforming into a hub for academic advancement and the cultivation of outstanding talent in related fields.

Through this MOU, the two institutions will carry out the following tasks: academic research and exchange (conducting joint projects, jointly hosting seminars, workshops, etc.); joint utilization of facilities, equipment, and materials; establishment of an equipment network to promote the joint utilization of research equipment; and cooperation through the exchange of technical information and mutual technical consultation.

Lee Jeong-hwan, President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science, stated, “Gyeongsang National University is a representative of the region that is actively fostering customized talent to realize carbon neutrality in the local community by forming a Campus Carbon Neutrality Committee with the participation of local expert groups. Describing it as a "leading national university," he stated, "Through this MOU, KIMS promises to actively cooperate with Gyeongsang National University to plan and promote various activities, including technological collaboration, thereby contributing to the development of the local community and taking the lead in establishing a cooperative system that can spearhead national development."
