Korea and Denmark are forming consensus on realizing carbon neutrality through promoting hydrogen ecosystem development, and are embarking on full-scale expansion of cooperation including sharing each country's hydrogen industry status.

The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (Chairman Moon Jae-do, hereinafter H2KOREA) held the "2021 Korea-Denmark Hydrogen Cooperation Roundtable" on the 15th at the Four Seasons Hotel with the Embassy of Denmark in Korea (Ambassador Einar Jensen) and Hydrogen Denmark (CEO Tejs Rosdtsen Jensen).

The event was organized to share the strategies and implementation directions of hydrogen companies from both countries, and to explore and discuss the possibilities of full-cycle cooperation in the hydrogen ecosystem.

The event was attended by H2KOREA Chairman Moon Jae-do, Embassy of Denmark in Korea Ambassador Einar Jensen, Hydrogen Denmark CEO Tejs Rosdtsen Jensen, as well as Hyundai Motor, POSCO, and Hyosung Heavy Industries from Korea, and Ørsted, Haldor Topsøe, and Ammongas from Denmark.

H2KOREA Chairman Moon Jae-do stated, "Today's roundtable has great significance as an opportunity to expand to the private sector the close cooperation discussions in the hydrogen sector that have been carried out at the government level between the two countries," and added, "I hope to continue constructive cooperation by harmonizing Korea's strengths in hydrogen economy utilization sectors with Denmark's strengths in offshore wind and biomass sectors."

Ambassador Einar Jensen of the Embassy of Denmark in Korea said, "Today's event is a landmark event in which the two countries can consolidate their capabilities in hydrogen and renewable energy sectors and enhance synergy effects," and noted, "I hope that today's event will lead to the formation of a 'Hydrogen and PtX Alliance' between companies of the two countries, becoming a cornerstone for cooperation in biogas and offshore wind sectors, which are the key to Korean-style green hydrogen production."

Additionally, Hydrogen Denmark CEO Tejs Rosdtsen Jensen stated, "According to Denmark's green hydrogen roadmap, 21 green hydrogen projects are currently underway throughout Denmark, and we are planning to secure 6GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030," and noted, "Through the memorandum of understanding with H2KOREA today, I hope that cooperation in the rapidly growing green hydrogen sector of both countries will become increasingly tangible."

The companies from both countries attending today's roundtable shared their hydrogen business strategies and the direction of inter-company cooperation.

In particular, through discussions to explore cooperation measures in the clean hydrogen ecosystem utilizing renewable energy such as offshore wind and the hydrogen mobility sector, the companies formed consensus on the importance of inter-company cooperation for expanding the global hydrogen industry.

Subsequently, H2KOREA and Hydrogen Denmark signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to achieve early realization of the global hydrogen economy by expanding cooperation between the hydrogen industries of both countries.

Following the MoU signing, the two organizations will concentrate their capabilities on △hosting regular conferences and seminars △cooperation exchange and support △building international cooperation networks △discovering and supporting joint hydrogen policies.

Meanwhile, Hydrogen Denmark has decided to participate in the "Global Hydrogen Industry Alliance (GHIAA)" scheduled to be launched in 2022 under the leadership of H2KOREA, and will accordingly launch as a pan-national private hydrogen industry cooperation organization with participation from 16 or more countries.
