[Editor's Note] The Creaform Contest 2021, the first-ever reverse-engineering competition using 3D scanners, has concluded its run. Beyond a simple competition of reverse-engineering skills, the event also included equipment training, achieving a double benefit: fostering experts and identifying partners to collaborate with Creaform on marketing activities in 2022. To learn more about the competition, we sat down with Jung Joo-young, Creaform's marketing manager who hosted the 2021 event.





■ The 'Creaform Contest 2021' has come to a grand conclusion. My thoughts so far

It seems like only yesterday that we started the Creaform Contest last November, but now it's already time to wrap it up.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in the Creaform Contest, which has been ongoing for over a month.

We also hope that the training on 3D scanners and reverse engineering software provided by Creaform and 3D Systems to the challengers was helpful.

The Creaform Contest was a success thanks to the support of the contestants, Creaform distributors, and 3D Systems. We would like to take this opportunity to once again express our gratitude to all the applicants who actively cooperated and provided advice throughout the quest.

■ You were in charge of the ‘Creaform Contest 2021’. If there are any episodes during the process, please introduce them.

I thought there would be a lot of fun things to do since I had the chance to meet many challengers, but there weren't as many episodes as I thought.

However, as we conducted offline training three times in a row while completing the quests in succession, I am happy that we were able to successfully complete the training by reviewing the training plan several times and proceeding with it, allowing applicants for each quest to successfully complete the training.

Since all training was conducted offline, there were difficulties such as safety rules, but thanks to the kindness of Creaform dealers and 3D Systems, we were able to achieve good results. In 2022, we believe that we will be able to discover new educational items by incorporating digital technology into training.

■ I am curious about what was the most important point in the contest judging, and how the difference in skill between the participants was determined to determine whether they passed or failed.

In this year's Creaform Contest, the judging process focused on technical aspects and content creation skills (SNS skills).

We judged the work based on how well the training provided for almost every quest was absorbed and how well it was reflected in the creation/composition of the work.

In particular, the completeness of the shape implementation and the deviation between the scan and the finished product were intensively evaluated.

We also visited existing social media accounts and evaluated them from various perspectives to see if they possess the ability to create content that is worthy of becoming a Peel Ambassador, which is the ultimate goal of this contest.

■ Do you think that the training for participants, which was one of the most important points of this contest, was carried out as originally planned? The reactions of the participants who participated in the training were

A total of six offline training sessions were held during the contest.

Thanks to the active support of Creaform distributors and 3D Systems, the event went as planned and participants were able to learn practically about reverse engineering as a whole and how to utilize 3D scanners and reverse engineering software. Once again, we would like to thank 3D Systems and Creaform distributors Createch and Ezsoft for their active support of the training.

■ What impact do you think the peel 3D scanner had on the participants’ results?

We believe that the results obtained using the Peel 3D scanner will help us achieve our initial planned reverse engineering work with greater accuracy and precision.

I think the biggest advantage is that the participants' results are more sophisticated and they can directly check the differences between the scans and the finished product, which is difficult to compare manually.

■ The first place winner will be promoted as a Peel 3D ambassador. How will you support their future activities?

If you are appointed as a Peel 3D ambassador, your immediate activity will be to attend the Creaform webinar on January 27, 2022, where you will share practical tips and ways to utilize the Peel 3D Scanner.

This webinar will provide answers to those interested in reverse engineering but struggling with technical barriers.

Creaform will continue to provide Peel 3D ambassadors with a channel to communicate with those interested in 3D scanners, reverse engineering, etc.

Additionally, if you have any technical inquiries regarding HW/SW, our engineers will be available to actively assist you.
