
July 9, 2013, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) and Cohda Wireless, a leader in connected vehicle technology, announced today the launch of the MK4, the latest product in connected car collision avoidance technology based on the NXP/Cohda RoadLINK™ chipset. This chipset will support the adoption of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), known as V2X. The MK4 is scheduled to be unveiled at the Auto Safety USA 2013 conference in Novi, Michigan.
Building on the success of the MK3, which is widely used for V2X testing worldwide, the MK4 will serve as the reference design for the production of the first generation of connected vehicles scheduled for release in 2015. The MK4 is the first chipset to integrate all of NXP's proven multi-standard software-defined radio (SDR) technologies. Half the size of its predecessor, it provides OEMs with a versatile and scalable solution while significantly reducing their Bill of Materials (BOM).
Compared to competing products, the NXP/Cohda RoadLINK chipset can exchange messages over a wider range even at high speeds. This chipset can significantly reduce response times compared to existing applications and provide guidance on potential hazards and safety much faster. RoadLINK chipsets that support DSRC (IEEE 802.11p) and Wi-Fi (802.11abgn) wireless standards can upload or connect to data via home Wi-Fi or hotspots.
Corda Wireless's 'connected car' V2X technology enables wireless communication between vehicles or between vehicles and traffic infrastructure. It also exchanges data such as location, speed, and direction, and through 360-degree monitoring of the vehicle's entire surroundings, it enables road safety assurance, collision avoidance, warnings of potential hazards, and quick route guidance. Ultimately, this allows for driver safety assurance, prevention of traffic congestion, and reduction of CO2 emissions.

He also explained, “The MK4 has expanded our technological leadership. This product is smaller and more powerful than the previous version and will provide the best outdoor performance. Korda is already licensing its technology to major automotive companies in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Korea. The MK4 will secure a firm position as a proven vehicle solution in 2015.”

Since its official launch in May 2011, the RoadLINK chipset has achieved the world's best mobile performance and is the industry's most mature V2X solution.

MK4 is a complete solution integrated with Corda's proven network layer, facility layer, and application layer software products. It supports international standards such as ETSI TC-ITS (ARIB STD-T109) for Europe and Japan and IEEE 1609 for the US at 760 MHz.
MK4 is also provided as an open and extensible Software Development Kit (SDK), allowing customers to configure and adapt Corda applications to their specific requirements.
