SK Telecom submitted an official document requesting that domestic telecommunications companies secure 5G frequencies under the same conditions before holding an auction.

SK Telecom claimed on the 25th that the allocation of 5G frequencies only benefited certain carriers, and that the auction should be held after a plan is established that allows all three carriers' customers to benefit.

SkT also proposed to auction 40MHz of spectrum (20MHz x 2 bands) above 3.7GHz, another 5G band.

SKT argued that all three companies could secure additional 5G frequencies and contribute to the public's convenience through fair competition.

In particular, SKT claimed that if the frequency bands above 3.7 GHz are allocated together, it will be possible to promote investment in domestically produced (Samsung Electronics) telecommunications equipment.

An SKT official stated, “When only one operator is supplied with the frequency that has the greatest impact on service quality, other operators will not be able to overcome the fundamental quality (data speed) difference for a certain period of time no matter how much effort they make to respond, so we requested additional frequency allocation with a sense of desperation.”
