Merck Korea (CEO Dr. Woo-Kyu Kim), the Korean subsidiary of leading science and technology company Merck, took the lead in social responsibility activities by supporting children in need, including multicultural children, in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

As part of its social responsibility, on the 28th, Korea Merck donated gift certificates worth 20 million won to four local children's centers located in the Pyeongtaek area of Gyeonggi Province through the Gyeonggi Social Welfare Community Chest of Korea together with the Gyeonggi Foreign Investment Enterprise Support Center (GSFIC).

Dr. Woo-Kyu Kim, representative of Merck Korea, said, “Merck’s support activities for social responsibility focus on activities to promote the health and welfare of the underprivileged, support for science, technology and cultural education, and sustainable solutions for environmental protection. Following the support for digital education at Ansan Multicultural Center in 2020, this time, we will support four places selected based on the status of underprivileged neighbors and children, especially children from multicultural families, and local children’s centers, in order to improve the quality of children’s lives and promote sustainable development. “We hope that through this support from Merck, children will not be excluded from various educational opportunities, and will have more opportunities to prepare for their future and pursue their dreams,” he said.

Kim Yong-moon, director of the Gyeonggi Foreign Investment Enterprise Support Center, also added to the significance of the ceremony, saying, “I sincerely appreciate Merck’s warm interest in local children’s centers, underprivileged classes, and multicultural families in Gyeonggi Province. Merck’s beautiful donation will give great courage to underprivileged multicultural children in our region to take on new challenges. Through the donation, they will be able to have new educational opportunities and create a stable and healthy environment for education and living.”

The Foreign Investment Support Center plays a role in resolving grievances of foreign investment companies in Gyeonggi Province and promoting social contribution activities.

Eunsuk Choi, the director of the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea, also said, “We sincerely thank Merck Korea for giving hope to our neighbors through sharing,” and added, “We will do our best to deliver warmth to our children whose bodies and minds have been frozen by COVID-19.”

The Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea, which oversaw the selection and execution of the center, is a neighborhood charity organization located in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. It is currently carrying out projects to support marginalized neighbors in the province, such as facilities, organizations, low-income earners, facility guardians, elderly people without support, and patients who operate social welfare projects in Gyeonggi Province.
