STMicroelectronics (hereinafter ST), a global semiconductor company supporting diverse electronic applications and customers, has launched a digitally programmable synchronous buck converter that conveniently and flexibly supports USB PD.

ST announced on the 18th that it has launched the STPD01 DC/DC buck converter, which provides optimal efficiency with synchronous topology and enables digital programmability to support up to 60W USB Power Delivery (PD) applications.

The STPD01 supports a wide input voltage range from 6V to 26.4V and offers the flexibility to handle applications such as AC multi-port adapters, USB hubs, PC monitors, and smart TVs.

The output voltage configured via I2C can be adjusted from 3V to 20V in minimum 20mV increments to comply with PD specifications.

This device integrates an internal voltage feedback resistor divider and cable drop compensation to ensure correct voltage reception without being affected by losses in copper tracks and attached output cables.

The STPD01 also features protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature. Additionally, it incorporates an embedded discharge circuit, soft start, UVLO (Under-Voltage Lockout), and programmable watchdog timer function to ensure a robust and safe system.

ST has also launched the STEVAL-2STPD01, a USB Type-C™ PD dual-port adapter kit, to accelerate solution development based on the STPD01.

This board is designed as an expansion card for use with the NUCLEO-G071RB, an STM32 Nucleo-64 development board, and includes 2 STPD01 programmable buck converters and 2 Type-C ports.

Additionally, 2 TCPP02-M18 protection ICs for USB Type-C and PD source applications are also mounted, and the related software package STSW-2STPD01 includes sample applications running on the STM32G07 microcontroller. The STEVAL-2STPD01 is currently available for purchase on ST eStore.

The STPD01 is currently in mass production and available for purchase on ST's eStore in a 3mm x 4mm QFN24L package. The price is $1.58 for orders of 500 units.
