Gwak No-jeong, Chairman (President of Overall Safety, Development and Manufacturing at SK Hynix Co., Ltd.), has assumed office as the 13th Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and expressed his commitment to realizing Korea's position as the world's leading semiconductor powerhouse.

The Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (hereinafter Semiconductor Association) has elected Gwak No-jeong, President of Overall Safety, Development and Manufacturing at SK Hynix Co., Ltd., as its 13th Chairman (three-year term: March 2022 to February 2025) through a general meeting.

Chairman Gwak No-jeong joined Hyundai Electronics in 1994 and has served in various positions at SK Hynix including Executive Vice President at the Future Technology Research Institute, Executive Vice President at the Cheongju Fab, and Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Technology before assuming his current position as President of Overall Safety, Development and Manufacturing in December of last year. Over the past 30 years, he has played a major role in the development of domestic semiconductor technology and industry.

Chairman Gwak No-jeong has expressed his commitment to strengthening the Semiconductor Association's role as a strategic partner in realizing the 'world's leading semiconductor powerhouse' by expanding communication and exchange with member companies, gathering diverse industry needs, and representing these interests.

In particular, he emphasized the Association's role in enhancing industry crisis response capabilities such as addressing global supply chain issues, expanding semiconductor talent development, maintaining technological superiority in memory semiconductors, strengthening competitiveness in system semiconductors, and strengthening the ecosystem of materials, components, and equipment industries.

He urged active reflection of industry opinions in the enactment of subordinate laws under the 'Special Act on National Advanced Strategic Industries,' which is to be implemented in August of this year, so that the Association can fulfill its role in promoting technological innovation and strengthening competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor industry.

Additionally, with the tenure of the 10th executive committee that was launched in 2019 also expiring at the end of February, the selection of the 11th executive committee was also conducted through this general meeting.

A total of 38 new executive committee members representing all sectors of semiconductors including devices, equipment, materials, and design have been newly organized and launched, including Park Yong-in, President of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., and Cho Ki-seok, Senior Vice President of DB HiTek Co., Ltd.

The 11th executive committee is expected to lead the strengthening of the domestic semiconductor industry ecosystem and industrial development together with the Association Chairman over the next three years.
