30,951 eco-friendly vehicles sold domestically in February this year
Domestic EV sales increased by 578.4% compared to the previous month

Domestic sales of eco-friendly vehicles, backed by domestic electric vehicles such as the Ioniq 5 and EV6, showed a strong trend, increasing by 76% compared to the previous month.

According to the February automotive industry trends released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, total domestic sales of eco-friendly vehicles in February 2022 reached 30,951 units, accounting for 25.2% of total sales and setting an all-time record for the month of February. This represents a 76.1% increase compared to the previous month and a 52.9% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

Domestic eco-friendly vehicles increased by 65.0% to 23,804 units compared to the same month of the previous year, while imported eco-friendly vehicles increased by 21.4% to 7,147 units, with domestic vehicles showing a much larger increase than imported vehicles.

In February 2022, sales of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) totaled 18,699 units, an increase of 26.5% from the previous month and 33.1% from the same month of the previous year. Sales of domestic hybrid vehicles reached 13,515 units, a 35.6% increase year-on-year. Sales of imported hybrid vehicles also recorded 5,184 units, a 27.1% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

Electric vehicles (EVs) sold particularly well. In February 2022, 10,345 electric vehicles were sold, marking a 578.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 157% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. The expansion of EV sales is attributed to the sustained sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, as well as the continued strong performance of the Hyundai Porter EV. Sales of domestic electric vehicles in February 2022 totaled 9,639 units, a 152.7% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. The sales growth of imported electric vehicles is also significant. Sales of imported electric vehicles in February 2022 reached 706 units, a 236.2% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles slowed down. 1,257 units were sold in February 2022, an increase of 32.6% from the previous month but a decrease of 21.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Sales of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) reached 650 units in February 2022, an increase of 103.8% from the previous month and 14.4% from the same month of the previous year.
