South Korea and the U.S. Discuss Strengthening Semiconductor Supply Chain

A meeting was held to discuss global semiconductor supply chain issues between Korea and the United States and to explore cooperation measures regarding technology, manpower, and investment.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '1st Subcommittee Meeting of the Korea-U.S. Semiconductor Partnership Dialogue' jointly with the U.S. Department of Commerce via video conference on the 31st.
This meeting was a subcommittee meeting aimed at generating results from the '1st Korea-U.S. Semiconductor Partnership Dialogue (Director-level)' held last December, and discussions were held in two subcommittees: the supply chain analysis subcommittee and the industrial cooperation subcommittee.
The Supply Chain Analysis Subcommittee discussed issues related to the global semiconductor supply chain and measures for industrial and trade cooperation to enhance supply chain resilience.
The Industrial Cooperation Subcommittee discussed major projects for industrial and trade cooperation, including technology development, manpower, and investment, and also shared achievements such as investment projects discovered at the 'Korea-U.S. Semiconductor Partnership Investment Briefing (Seoul)' held last February.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, “Taking this subcommittee meeting as an opportunity, based on the solid trust between Korea and the U.S., the two countries will identify successful projects to strengthen the supply chain and enhance the competitiveness of their respective semiconductor industries, and closely [work together] with industry &"We will continue trade cooperation," they stated.

산업통상자원부가 21일, 신산업 창출 전력 반도체 상용화 사업 성과를 점검했다. 해당 사업은 2017년부터 Si 및 SiC, GaN 같은 화합물 기반의 전력 반도체 산업 기반을 국내에 구축하기 위해 2023년까지 진행된다. 이번 점검에는 참여기업들의 제품 개발을 통해 2019년부터 올해 5월까지 390억 원 규모의 사업화 성과가 창출됐음을 확인했다.
