A new authentication solution providing accredited security certification to build trust within the IoT ecosystem and networks has been launched, raising expectations that it will make the development of security devices easier.

NXP Semiconductors announced on the 31st the new EdgeLock A5000, an EdgeLock security-certified product featuring the flexibility, adaptability, and universality needed to ensure security across various standards in diverse IoT ecosystems.

The EdgeLock A5000 is a scalable solution for security-critical authentication applications throughout the product lifecycle, including various IoT use cases, smart city infrastructure, and connected industrial equipment.

Christian Lackner, Senior Director of IoT Security and Smart Product Certification at NXP, said, “Certification plays a pivotal role in building trust for secure devices within the IoT ecosystem, but implementing it is a challenging task.” “The EdgeLock A5000 enables developers to focus on differentiating IoT solutions by making the development of security devices easy and scalable,” he said.

The EdgeLock security authentication suite, which complements NXP’s EdgeLock security element suite that supports more complex ecosystems requiring multi-tenant security, updatable capabilities, and cryptographic agility, is designed to meet the growing demands for security in authentication applications.

The new security certification product EdgeLock A5000 provides a highly secure accredited certification solution with a Common Criteria (CC) Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) of 6 or higher, which has passed AVA_VAN.5 (up to OS) to enable the certification mechanism.

The EdgeLock A5000 is designed to operate as a turnkey certified plug-in with all types of connectivity platforms, such as microcontrollers, microprocessors, or Wi-Fi SoCs.

The EdgeLock A5000 supports a wide temperature range (-40 to +105 °C), making it suitable for applications such as industrial equipment, smart city infrastructure components, or home appliances.

The EdgeLock A5000 includes dedicated application guidelines and software examples for individual use cases such as device certification, cloud onboarding, Matter smart home ecosystem inclusion, smart metering, electric vehicle charging, Qi 1.3 wireless charging certification, and gaming. This allows developers to focus on implementing specific necessary applications while providing secure solutions that can be easily scaled to fit various products within the ecosystem.

In addition, with EdgeLock 2GO, developers do not need to build complex and expensive password management infrastructure to handle device credentials when leveraging NXP security infrastructure and services. This includes EdgeLock 2GO Custom, which can support complex configurations or create custom ICs compliant with Qi 1.3 and Matter standards, and EdgeLock 2GO Managed, which manages credentials and various services (e.g., credential rotation) throughout the device lifecycle.
