Intel has pledged to collaborate with customers and industry partners to develop solutions that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire technology ecosystem.

Intel announced on the 14th plans to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions and develop more sustainable technology solutions.

Intel plans to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions at its global operations by 2040 and establish goals to reduce the carbon footprint of its products and platforms and increase energy efficiency.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger stated, “The impact of climate change poses an immediate threat globally. We must act right now to protect the planet we live on,” adding, “We must rethink how businesses operate worldwide.”

Intel plans to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions at its facilities, known as Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, by 2040.

Intel's priority is to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with international standards and climate science. If there are no other options to achieve the goal, we also plan to utilize a reliable carbon offset system.

To achieve its goals, Intel has set four intermediate goals by 2030: using 100% renewable power at its global operations; investing $300 million to save energy at Intel facilities and achieving a cumulative total of 4 billion kWh of energy savings; constructing new factories and facilities that meet the Green Building Council®'s LEED® standards, including recent investments in the U.S., Europe, and Asia; and identifying eco-friendly chemicals with low global warming impact and initiating cross-industry research and development for the development of new equipment.

Through these goals, Intel further strengthens its efforts for sustainable business, such as the RISE strategy. Over the past decade, Intel's cumulative greenhouse gas emissions have been approximately 75% lower than if these efforts had not been undertaken.

"We will achieve the significant innovation and investment necessary to do so and will work with the industry to reach our goals."

We are also working to address climate impacts across the upstream and downstream value chains, also known as Scope 3 emissions. Intel's Scope 3 strategy focuses on taking proactive measures to reduce overall emissions through partnerships with suppliers and customers.

Intel is actively collaborating with suppliers to identify areas for improvement, such as by leading an industry consortium to encourage suppliers to focus more on energy conservation and renewable energy sourcing, increase chemical and resource efficiency, and support the transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the semiconductor manufacturing value chain. To this end, Intel has pledged to work with suppliers to reduce supply chain greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by 2030 compared to a scenario without investment or action.

Intel plans to continuously drive performance improvements required by the market and increase the energy efficiency of its products to support customers' sustainability goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the use of Scope 3 products. Intel is establishing a new goal to improve the performance per watt of its next-generation CPUs and GPUs, Falcon Shores, fivefold. Intel is also continuing to achieve its goal of increasing the energy efficiency of its client and server microprocessor products tenfold by 2030.
