The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and KT will host an artificial intelligence model development hackathon to contribute to Korea's growth as a global leader in the field of future network intelligence through joint participation from industry, academia, and research.

ETRI and KT announced that the first network intelligence AI Hackathon in Korea will be held online and offline for approximately two months from the 18th to June.

Network intelligence is a core part of the DNA of the digital age, and is expected to be a necessary technology for accommodating diverse services and enhancing users' service experience in the 6G era.

In particular, due to the increasing demand and traffic for various communication services, it is difficult to resolve network stability and reliability using existing methods.

For this, securing high-quality data from the network is a key factor.

This event presents solutions to network anomaly detection issues to ensure network stability, based on actual operational data from telecommunications companies.

IP services and media services for domestic university students A competition will be held to address the accuracy and reproducibility of AI models for network anomaly detection using publicly available data from the field.

The top six teams selected through the competition will be announced offline and judged at the finals scheduled for June, and the final ranking will be determined. The winner will receive a total of 10 million won in prize money, as well as opportunities for employment, bonus points, and more.

The final round will feature participation from related industries, academia, and research institutes, and a forum for technological and industrial exchanges related to domestic network intelligence and automation will be held through side events.

ETRI Network Research Center Director Kim Seon-mi said, “We hope that the release of actual network data, a long-awaited development in the network-AI field, will spur related research and technology development.”

KT Infrastructure DX Research Center Director Lee Jong-sik also said, “KT has continuously led AI and SDN technologies in the network field, and we will use this event as an opportunity to spread the word about network issues that businesses are concerned about to the academic world, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the related ecosystem.”
