Digital business, accelerated by the pandemic, is emerging as an important topic in responding to distributed environments such as applications, clouds, customers, and workplaces. Accordingly, an integrated service strategy for distributed environments was announced, suggesting related solutions.

At a press conference held on the 19th, Jeon In-ho, CEO of VMware Korea, announced the domestic strategy along with updates to the VMware Cross-Cloud integrated service launched at the end of last year. He emphasized, “In a distributed environment with various IT devices, cloud and infrastructure are becoming more important,” and “It is important to support multi-cloud technology that utilizes public cloud, private cloud, and edge service.”

The meeting, held online, focused on optimizing multi-cloud operation and management costs in a distributed environment that is accelerating toward multi-cloud, and explained that they will strengthen and support △application modernization △multi-cloud utilization △network supplementation necessary to respond to a distributed environment.
VMware cross-cloud services, consisting of △App Platform △Cloud Infrastructure △Cloud Management △Security and Network △Anywhere Workspace, build, run, and manage applications across multiple clouds. VMware explains that this will enable users to build, run, and operate enterprise applications consistently and securely from anywhere.

As the use of containers increases, the use of Kubernetes in multi-cloud environments is also on the rise. Kim Young-tae, Managing Director of VMware Korea, stated, “As Kubernetes is established as the main infrastructure, there are issues such as automation of operations and management when using multiple Kubernetes clusters and clouds,” and “In the DevOps area, vulnerabilities in open source are also challenges to be resolved.”

Executive Director Kim said, “Developer productivity is a company’s competitiveness,” and “Developer productivity is important amidst the rising salaries of domestic developers and competition to attract talent.” By supporting the platform team to meet the needs of the development team and increase the efficiency of operational management, development productivity can be improved.

In the industry, platform teams are emerging to address the challenges of modernizing existing applications, maintaining the latest CVE patches, and managing and operating integrated operations. VMware has introduced Tanzu for Kubernetes Operations as a tool to support these platform teams.

Launched in March, it supports managing, securing, and monitoring Kubernetes clusters across clouds, and provides a foundation for platform operations teams to build, operate, and manage Kubernetes-based modern container infrastructure across multiple clouds.


CEO Jeon In-ho emphasized, “It is time for domestic companies to go beyond cloud transition and discuss efficient multi-cloud operation, and companies must start with an architecture that provides both choice and flexibility.” He added, “The Tanzu service is a product that supports container apps and infrastructure, so it is preferred by finance, internet businesses, distribution, and communications, where modern apps are a key competitive edge.”

Meanwhile, VMware is building partnerships with more enterprises this year through partnerships with major global cloud service providers (CSPs). △We are strengthening global partnerships in 5G and edge computing solutions with Amazon Web Services (AWS), △Google Cloud VMware Engine, △VMware multi-cloud services through AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplace, and △Deloitte VMware Distributed Cloud (DVDC).
