Experts suggested that new value can be created by integrating various data into an IIoT platform to build and connect systems.

Lee Won-seok, Head of Rockwell Automation, discussed smart factory construction methods and demonstration cases in a presentation titled "Connectivity through IIoT Platforms and Integration of Smart Manufacturing Technologies" at the "2022 IIoT Innovation DAY" seminar hosted by e4ds last April.

Director Lee Won-seok stated that digital innovation offers advantages such as a 50% reduction in plant shutdowns, quality improvement through reduced defect rates, reduced process defects, and reduced maintenance costs.

Director Lee stated that many companies are facing challenges regarding digital transformation, including difficulties in integration due to the existence of numerous legacy systems, difficulties in connecting IT-OT data, difficulties in standardization, a lack of connection tools, a lack of knowledge and experience sharing, and difficulties in creating roadmaps.

The smart factory presented by Rockwell Automation includes intelligence devices such as motors and sensors, traditional elements such as computing systems like controllers, and VR as a factory design component.There are various elements such as AR, operating systems, machine learning, AI, etc., and it is completed by connecting data and devices through the platform.

Rockwell Automation stated that when data is integrated and configured based on a platform, machines are connected with a single tool, requiring support even for PC-based software. To achieve this, they provide a tool called Kepware, which enables the consistent provision of enterprise high-level systems, such as data collection, analysis, and connection, on a unified platform.

Rockwell Automation stated that the significance of the IIoT platform lies in integrating data from the edge and machine ends through its own tools and automating data flow to provide the right data at the right time.

In the latter part of the lecture, he presented examples of creating new business value through IIoT platforms and stated that these cases can provide insights, such as securing operational insights for managers and workers, achieving data contextualization ranging from real-time data verification to reflecting user behavior, reducing downtime through rapid alarm detection and acquisition of various real-time information, real-time trend analysis, and maintenance.

Finally, Director Lee demonstrated the control of an actual 3D factory as a method for building a virtual factory through digital twins.
