South Korea is continuously adopting digital infrastructure through investments in advanced ICT infrastructure, 5G, AI, and cloud computing. In 2019, it became the first country in the world to commercialize a 5G network, and now more than a quarter of all mobile communications are 5G. South Korea's public cloud market is also growing, projected to grow from $1.5 billion in 2018 to $3.1 billion by 2023, making data center infrastructure expansion essential.

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) announced on the 8th that it will establish a second data centre in Gasan-dong, Seoul.

The data center, to be built in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, will span 31,205 square meters and have an IT capacity of 30 megawatts. It is located near Gasan Digital Complex Station and Doksan Station, as well as adjacent to logistics facilities and a knowledge industry center. In particular, it was emphasized that it has the advantage of being a network-neutral data center due to its easy interconnection with data centers in Mokdong and Gasan.

“STT GDC’s second data center in Korea is a testament to our commitment to supporting the digital transformation of Korean industries,” said Bruno Lopez, Chairman of STT GDC. “We will focus STT GDC’s global data center capabilities on this Seoul project to meet customer needs that demand complex designs and flexible expansion.”

Meanwhile, STT GDC's second data center will be built with support from international institutional investors and Samsung SRA Asset Management, a subsidiary of Samsung Group. STT GDC will lease the data center building from Samsung SRA Asset Management and, after completing the remaining facility work, plans to launch services in the first half of 2025.
