On Semiconductor (hereinafter On Semi) announced on the 8th two system solutions, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and KNX, that support today's widely used building automation network protocols.

The NCN5140S, which facilitates the development of access and control panels, is a KNX Association-certified System-in-Package (SiP). The NCN5140S integrates all critical and certified elements of KNX devices into a single package, including a digital KNX transceiver, a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M0+ microcontroller with a pre-certified software stack, and a system power DC/DC converter.

NCN5140S, with its high level of integration, significantly reduces material costs and enables manufacturers to develop very thin and modern designs (total depth less than 5 mm).

With the NCN5140S, ON Semi has introduced a complete solution for Ethernet-powered lighting. Unlike other devices on the market, the NCL31010 integrates an intelligent LED driver and a PoE interface into a single package. This supports both the lighting and power supply requirements of the currently required lighting system.

KNX products must demonstrate compliance with supported protocols and profiles through the association's certification program to ensure seamless connectivity. Since the NCN5140S platform is pre-certified, products based on this device support this compliance. ON Semi emphasized that separate KNX certification testing is not required, and KNX support eliminates the need for additional certification time and engineering investment.

The IEEE 802.3bt compliant NCL31010 can supply over 90W via PoE. An innovative application made possible by this high-efficiency buck LED driver is Visible Light Communication (VLC). This allows for direct data modulation and broadcasting to LED lights, and can also be used as a position indicator for indoor positioning systems.
