Visual Studio Code Extension, Embedded Development Tool Integration

IAR's embedded expertise and software solutions are being provided to millions of Visual Studio Code users worldwide through the various features of extensions.
IAR Systems announced on the 21st that it is providing an extension that supports various features for Visual Studio Code, which was released for embedded software development solutions.
This extension is currently available through the Visual Studio Code Marketplace, allowing developers to work with Visual Studio Code. IAR Systems emphasized that this also enables the utilization of various features of IAR System Software solutions specialized for embedded systems.
Over the past several years, IAR Systems and Azure RTOS have provided integrated products, including the integration of the Azure RTOS ThreadX kernel into the IAR Embedded Workbench debugger. The state-of-the-art debugger, integrated with Microsoft’s embedded tool extension, includes the ability to query all Azure RTOS ThreadX objects, set per-thread breakpoints, view the call stacks of suspended threads, and view Azure RTOS ThreadX’s unique execution profiles and performance monitoring capabilities.
It was explained that IAR Systems' new extension provides the same high level of integration capabilities to the Visual Studio Code community. It was also added that this extension enables a fully GitHub-based automated development workflow by providing IoT developers with a complete development experience from prototyping to delivered finished products.
The Visual Studio Code extension for IAR systems is compatible with all the latest versions of IAR Embedded Workbench and IAR Build Tools. This extension can also be used with other build systems such as CMake, source control, and versioning extensions like GitHub.
"We are very pleased that the 6 million developers in the Visual Studio Code community can now utilize the capabilities of IAR Embedded Workbench," said Amanda Silver, Vice President at Microsoft. "This will make it easier for embedded app developers to use IAR's tools with Visual Studio Code."
Anders Holmberg, CTO of IAR Systems, stated, "IAR Systems' Visual Studio extension acts as a bridge between general code development environments and embedded development environments, enabling results greater than '2' through '1+1'."
He also stated, "The availability of new Visual Studio Code extensions on GitHub and the Marketplace provides IAR Systems with a distinct advantage in interacting with users and expanding its potential user base," adding, "Furthermore, by interacting with developers and sharing knowledge and experience, we will strengthen our expertise in code excellence."

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers.
