As UNIST (President Lee Yong-hoon) begins full-scale research on telemedicine systems, the cultivation of digital talent centered on smart healthcare and the enhancement of the social value of medical technology are anticipated.

UNIST announced on the 27th that its '5T SPACE Center (Director Byun Young-jae)' was finally selected for the 'Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project' supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information and Communication Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP).

Through this selection, the 5T SPACE Center plans to begin research on a telemedicine system that enables health monitoring to check one's physical condition without visiting a hospital, as well as remote diagnosis and prescription.

We plan to establish a system that enables real-time monitoring and remote medical care by measuring various vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and blood sugar, through a single device and safely transmitting them to a hospital.

Through this process, training is provided not only to science and engineering students but also to working professionals in the industry to foster talent who will contribute to the development of the smart healthcare sector.

The 5T SPACE Center was finally selected as the representative of the Southeast region for the 2022 Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project.

Led by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UNIST, this center will receive 18 billion won in funding, including state subsidies, over the next eight years starting this year to develop the region's 'smart healthcare' sector and participate in the government's initiative to 'cultivate 1 million digital talents.'.

Professor Byun Young-jae of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UNIST, who is in charge of the overall project, said, “5T stands for the five core ICT technologies of next-generation intelligence: network (IoT, 5G), data (Cloud, Big Data), artificial intelligence, computing, and cybersecurity,” adding, “This center will become a ‘SPACE’ for researching and learning 5T and sharing technology with companies.”
