ETRI Reappoints ETRI Holdings President Yoon Sang-kyung

ETRI Holdings President Yoon Sang-kyung, who was reappointed for the 5th term following the 4th term, expressed his ambition that ETRI Holdings would make a new leap forward by building a successful technology commercialization investment platform.The Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on the 1st that it has appointed current CEO Yoon Sang-kyung as the representative of its subsidiary, ETRI Holdings Co., Ltd.
CEO Yoon's term of office is until 2025.
ETRI Holdings Co., Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary established by ETRI in May 2010 for the purpose of investing in the commercialization of ETRI's public technologies.
ETRI Holdings Co., Ltd. has established and invested in 68 research institute companies over the 12 years since its establishment, and currently operates three technology commercialization investment funds.
ETRI explained the background of the appointment, stating that CEO Yoon Sang-kyung has generated outstanding results in the fields of public sector technology commercialization and related investment, and is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the competitiveness of technology commercialization, particularly based on his unicorn company investment model.
CEO Yoon Sang-kyung was appointed as the 4th CEO of ETRI Holdings Co., Ltd. in August 2019 and has led early-stage investments in the commercialization of public technologies for three years. Since 2021, he has formed the ETRI Holdings-Shinhan Unicorn Investment Fund to pursue investments in the commercialization of deep tech unicorns.
In addition, research institute companies such as Sugentech, SyntekaBio, GeneSystem, and Minds Lab achieved the listing of KOSDAQ companies.
CEO Yoon aims to form additional digital technology venture commercialization investment funds based on strengthened strategic alliances and joint investment strategies, with the goal of listing more than 10 invested companies on KOSDAQ within the next five years.
Yoon Sang-kyung, CEO of ETRI Holdings, said, “As it marks the 12th anniversary of ETRI Holdings’ launch, we plan to pursue strategies for establishing a full-cycle investment platform for technology commercialization, developing patent technology investment business models, and fostering talent for public technology commercialization investment to achieve a new leap forward and sustainable growth.”
CEO Yoon Sang-kyung obtained a Ph.D. in Nanomaterials from Michigan State University in the United States in 1994 and served as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, head of the New Business Promotion Group at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, executive vice president in charge of investment at ID Ventures, and CEO of iAsset.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
