Outlook for 77,000 Electric Vehicles Supplied Within Year, Penetration Rate to Surpass 1.9%
Acceleration of Electrification of Cargo, Public Transportation, and Delivery Two-Wheelers

Seoul City will additionally supply various types of electric vehicles in the second half to achieve the goal of realizing a 10% electric vehicle era by 2026.

Seoul City announced on the 8th that it will secure additional budget in the second half to supply 10,278 units, thereby supplying a total of 24,400 or more electric vehicles this year.

Seoul City supplied a total of 52,400 electric vehicles from 2009 to last year. This year alone, Seoul will supply 24,400 or more electric vehicles, equivalent to 47% of the vehicles supplied over the past 13 years, with expectations to surpass an accumulated total of 77,000 units.

Due to citizens' high level of interest in electric vehicles, in the first half of 2022, 17,027 units were received, exceeding the supply quantity of 14,166 units by 120%.

Additionally, approximately 27,000 electric vehicle purchase contract holders in Seoul are waiting for vehicle delivery. Seoul City announced a plan to analyze vehicle production trends and supply additional units so that as many citizens as possible can benefit from subsidies.

The additional supply quantity by vehicle type is as follows: △passenger vehicles 7,022 units △cargo vehicles 444 units △two-wheelers 1,000 units △taxis 1,500 units △buses 312 units. Of these, the private announced quantity is a total of 8,410 units, and the public transportation supply quantity is 1,800 units.

For electric passenger vehicles, reflecting citizens' demand due to various new vehicle launches, 7,000 units will be additionally supplied in the second half, compared to 6,300 units in the first half.

Additionally, to accelerate the early retirement of diesel vehicles for courier and village buses and to convert city buses (which emit 30 times or more greenhouse gases compared to passenger vehicles) that have long driving distances and emit large amounts of greenhouse gases into electric vehicles, 400 cargo vehicles and 300 buses will be additionally supplied.

For electric two-wheelers, to convert delivery internal combustion engine two-wheelers, which are identified as major causes of air pollution and noise in residential areas, to electric two-wheelers by 2025, 1,000 units will be additionally supplied.

Additionally, it was decided to additionally supply 1,500 electric taxis, which showed a reception rate of 300% or more compared to 1,500 units supplied in the first half.

Seoul City stated that applications for subsidies for electric taxis and electric buses and selection of support targets will be carried out according to a separate plan by the Urban Transportation Division.

Yoo Yeon-sik, head of the Climate and Environment Bureau, stated, "We expanded the supply of electric vehicles to actively respond to greenhouse gas reduction and citizens' increasing demand for electric vehicles," and added, "We plan to supply 400,000 electric vehicles by 2026, achieve a 10% electric vehicle penetration rate, and create a cleaner Seoul with electric vehicles."
