106 South Korean fabless companies have gathered to launch an all-out effort to strengthen the competitiveness of the country's system semiconductor industry.

The Korea Fabless Industry Association held its inaugural general meeting at the Pangyo Startup Campus on August 17.

The Korea Fabless Industry Association stated its founding purpose as an organization to contribute to the creation of a healthy fabless industry ecosystem in South Korea, enabling the Korean system semiconductor design industry to achieve solid global growth, by effectively conveying the voice of the fabless industry to the government and the National Assembly through incorporation.

Furthermore, it was stated that, while representing the Korean system semiconductor design industry and companies, it will take on a more fundamental role in creating a healthy ecosystem that enables the growth of the Korean system semiconductor design industry.

In addition, it was mentioned that the purpose of the project is to seek ways for the Korea Fabless Industry Association, along with system semiconductor-related industries such as system companies, IDMs, and fabless firms, as well as academia and research institutes, to join forces to strengthen the competitiveness of the Korean system semiconductor industry and contribute to national development, while fostering talent through mutual cooperation among members and ultimately promoting shared growth.

The association The operational plan was detailed, stating that mutual cooperation and synergy effects are expected through the activities of all four divisions: System Interface Solution, IP (Intellectual Property), Automotive/Industry, and Mobile/IoT.

The Korea Fabless Industry Association shared its plan to perform the following roles as a representative of the Korean system semiconductor industry.

First, we plan to consolidate the voices of companies that have previously responded individually to proactively seek ways to foster the system semiconductor ecosystem, and to act as a spokesperson to raise awareness of the ecosystem's poor infrastructure and various difficulties.

In addition, we plan to seek solutions to the chronic problem of manpower shortages and actively cooperate with academia, and promote various activities such as forums, seminars, and technology exchange events.

Along with this, there is a plan to actively contribute to the system semiconductor industry, and furthermore to society and the nation.

The Korea Fabless Industry Association expressed its determination to do its utmost to strengthen the global competitiveness of the Korean system semiconductor industry and stated its ambition to fulfill the calling and mission of the times known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, by playing a role in ensuring that semiconductor chips planned, designed, and manufactured by specialized system semiconductor design (fabless) companies establish Korea as a hegemonic nation in the global market.
