Seoul E-PRIX, the 100th Formula E race and the final Gen2 race

The racing cars were quiet, but the atmosphere on the scene was heated.

Formula E, one of the world's largest racing competitions, marked its season finale in Jamsil on the 14th.

Unlike Formula One (F1), Formula E uses electricity as its energy source and is less noisy, so there is no problem with holding it in the middle of a city.

Just because the racing car was quiet didn't mean the atmosphere was the same.

Formula E's Gen2 cars raced around the circuit at speeds of up to 280 km/h for approximately 45 minutes, fiercely competing to cross the finish line first.

There's no need to feel bad if you missed this competition. This is because Formula E racing will be held in Korea for the next four years.

It is expected to serve as an opportunity to increase popularity in Korea, where awareness of racing is not high.

Starting next season, Gen3 vehicles, which are different from the previous Gen2 vehicles, will be introduced.

Compared to Gen2, Gen3 shows superior performance and sustainability.

Compared to Gen2, which had a top speed of 280 km/h with a 250 kW battery and 335 horsepower, Gen3 achieved a top speed of 320 km/h with 350 kW and 470 horsepower.

It boasts an efficiency that allows the energy produced through regenerative braking to account for more than 40% of the energy used during racing, and its 600kW ultra-fast charging function can supply additional energy during the race.

The 600kW ultra-fast charging capability is twice the power of the world's most advanced commercial chargers.

Additionally, Gen3's batteries are constructed from sustainable minerals, and battery cells are reused and recycled when they reach the end of their lifespan. />
Natural rubber and recycled fibers make up 26% of the Gen3 tires, and all tires are recycled after the race, showing consideration for the environment.

The FIA announced that there will also be changes to the vehicle's exterior, including the disappearance of tire covers.

Starting next season, Hankook Tire will supply tires instead of Michelin, which originally supplied tires to Formula E.

Formula E concluded its season at Jamsil, and the season winner, who had been unknown until the very end, was also announced.

The eighth season of Formula E, held in Jamsil on August 13th and 14th, ended successfully with Mercedes' Stoffel Vandoorne winning the season championship.

This race, held in Jamsil, marked the end of Formula E Season 8 and was also significant as the 14th race was the 100th race.

Also, after the Seoul E-PRIX, which was the last race for Gen2 racing cars, we will no longer be able to see Gen2 cars.

The first racer to cross the finish line on the 14th, which was significant in many ways, was ROKiT Venturi Racing's Edoardo Mortara.

Mortara, who finished second in qualifying to determine the starting order for the main race, started the race. After about 3 minutes, he sharply dug into the inner course and overtook Da Costa, who was running in first place, and did not give up the first place until the end.

Mortara finished the season in third place with four wins, including the Seoul E-PRIX.

Stoffel Vandoorne, a strong contender for the title this season, finished fourth in qualifying and second in the race, earning 18 points to take his season total to 213, 33 points ahead of second-placed Mitch Evans.

Mercedes, which produced the winning racer, accumulated the most points this season and also took first place in the team standings.

Mercedes had a fantastic season, but they will not be participating in Formula E after this season.

The FIA announced that Mercedes' vacant position will be filled by McLaren from next season.

Meanwhile, the Dragon/Penske Autosport team, sponsored by Mouser, was unable to perform normally in the 14th race due to damage to the car body caused by an accident during the race. However, it is interpreted that there is great significance in finishing the race to the end even after the accident.

“One of the two racers, Antonio Giovinazzi, suffered an injury during the race on the 13th, so Sacha Fenestraz took his place,” said a Dragon Penske team official. “We are proud of Sacha for finishing the race under difficult circumstances.”
