Domestic semiconductor fabless companies strongly urged nationwide support.

On the 26th, the Korea Fabless Industry Association released a statement on behalf of semiconductor fabless companies requesting nationwide support.

The Korea Fabless Industry Association was officially launched on August 17th with its inaugural general meeting held at the Pangyo Startup Campus.

105 fabless companies, including Pixelplus Chairman Lee Seo-gyu, have registered as members.

The association said that the importance of semiconductors cannot be overemphasized, and that while South Korea has the world's largest share of memory semiconductors, it only has a 3% share of the global system semiconductor market, and when limited to fabless semiconductors, its global market share is only 1%.

He also said that considering that the market for system semiconductors is more than twice that of memory semiconductors, the situation is quite concerning, and that semiconductors are a core industry that determines the fate of a nation, and that there are only a few countries that can lead this industry, and that they must have an abundance of talent and a well-established IT infrastructure.

He also mentioned that one must have extensive experience in the semiconductor industry.

In this respect, he said that South Korea has a natural environment for developing system semiconductors, and that the United States recently passed a semiconductor support law worth 364 trillion won, and China is expanding its semiconductor industry.

Accordingly, on August 4th, the Special Act on Strengthening and Protecting the Competitiveness of National Advanced Strategic Industries, which includes semiconductors, was enacted in Korea, but it was argued that a semiconductor support law that would provide practical support to the semiconductor industry should be passed.

CooperationThe company stated that the fabless industry, which will form the foundation of the 4th industrial revolution, is an industry with very high added value in the future, and that it is essential to provide focused support for human resource development, expansion of fabless-led R&D projects, stabilization of the supply chain of domestic fabless companies, support for next-generation technology development projects, and activation of M&A to secure competitiveness.

He also strongly urged nationwide support on behalf of fabless companies, saying he was confident that they would achieve economies of scale and greatly contribute to national development.
