In the coming 5G and 6G era, the importance of wireless communication technologies, including connected cars, drones, and contactless interactions, is growing by the day. Accordingly, a forum has been established in Korea where organizations from 14 countries around the world will gather to discuss and share the radio wave management agenda.

The Ministry of Science and ICT's Central Radio Management Office will host the 'International Radio Management Discussion (Global Radio Management Forum) 2022' on September 6-7 through the Korea Federation of SMEs in Yeouido and YouTube, both online and offline, to discuss international radio management issues and explore mutual cooperation measures, with the participation of radio management agencies from 14 countries including Asia, South America, and the Middle East.

Sixteen officials from seven countries, including the head of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Cambodia (TRC), at the bureau and division level, from overseas radio management agencies will participate in the event to discuss radio management technology and cooperation plans.

The two-day forum will begin with a congratulatory address by Vice President Song Jeong-soo of the Radio Promotion Association of Korea (RAPA) and a keynote speech by President Park Seong-wook of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science (KIEES). It will consist of four sessions: △Trends in Radio Management △Current Status of Radio Management △Latest Technologies in Radio Management △Future Technologies in Radio Management, and a special session for participating countries. In addition, there will be presentations from the International Telecommunication Union Headquarters (Switzerland) and Central Radio Management Office, the National Radio Research Agency, the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association, the Korea Broadcasting and Communications Promotion Agency, the Korea Information Society Development Institute, the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and the industry, as well as a presentation on the current status of radio management agencies in five foreign countries.

The first day of the symposium will cover topics such as the latest standardization issues of international organizations, major agendas for radio wave management, domestic radio wave management cases such as frequency auction recovery and reallocation, and mobile communication and satellite radio wave management. The second day will introduce the latest technologies of domestic companies in the field of radio wave management, including anti-drone technology, and future technologies such as trends in terahertz band radio wave research that will be used in next-generation wireless communications.

Additionally, the radio technology of domestic companies in the radio management field will be displayed in the exhibition space within the event venue, and a booth promoting domestic radio technology will be set up on the symposium website by introducing product promotional videos and publications.

In his opening remarks, Director Lee Sang-hoon of the Korea Radio Management Office emphasized, “As the digital transformation has accelerated due to COVID-19, the importance of radio waves has grown greater than ever, and accordingly, the role of radio management agencies in each country to stably manage radio resources has become increasingly important.” He added, “I hope that this discussion will serve as a cooperative platform that promotes cooperation in radio management among participating countries and expands mutual benefits.”

The Central Radio Management Office added that it plans to continuously strengthen its role in supporting the industry's overseas expansion, through exchanges and cooperation with overseas organizations, activities of international organizations, and the annual International Radio Management Forum.
