The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Lee Jeong-hwan), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, held an event to showcase its extreme materials technology and pledge to lay the foundation for securing leading extreme materials.

The Korea Institute of Materials Science and Technology held 'KIMS TECHFAIR 2022' for officials from domestic materials and components companies at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) from September 21 to 22.

This event, hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon City, organized by the Korea Institute of Materials Science, and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Science and Technology Council, was prepared with the goal of highlighting the significance of the Ministry of Science and ICT's passing of the government's preliminary feasibility study for the 'Extreme Materials Demonstration Research Infrastructure Establishment Project,' encouraging corporate interest in demonstration research of extreme materials such as aerospace, hydrogen, and gas turbine power generation, and laying the foundation for securing leading extreme materials.

'KIMS TECHFAIR' can be considered the representative event of the Korea Institute of Materials Science, marking its fourth year since it was first held in 2014.

This event showcased a total of 86 technologies across various fields, including six world-leading technologies owned by the Korea Institute of Materials Science.

Specifically, 12 in the extreme materials sector, 20 in the transportation equipment sector, and energy/power generation/batteries/plants There are 11 fields, 7 display/electronics/semiconductor fields, 9 space/aviation fields, 5 medical fields, 3 defense fields, 8 architecture/environment fields, 2 mold/tool fields, and 9 industrial support fields.

In addition to technology exhibitions, a session was also arranged to listen to opinions on materials technology.

On the first day of the event, the 'Materials Technology Innovation Symposium' was held.

Choi Hwan-seok, Vice President of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Song Yong-jin, Vice President of Doosan Energy, and Professor Kim Bum-jun of Sungkyunkwan University attended.

On the second day, 'technical exchange meetings' on various topics will be held.

The following events are scheduled to take place: the Carbon Composite Materials Technology Exchange, the 11th 2022 Korean Society of Plastic Processing Extrusion and Drawing Symposium, the Hyundai Motor Company Basic Materials Research Center Technology Exchange, the Future Powder Materials Technology Exchange, and the Magnesium Technology Exchange.

Lee Jeong-hwan, President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science, stated, “A sundial is useless if it remains in the shadows,” adding, “Since excellent research results must lead to practical application and industrialization so that outstanding local companies can actively utilize them, I hope this event will contribute to that effort.”
