Companies are enhancing their semiconductor design capabilities to develop cutting-edge semiconductor products. They are focusing on strengthening the semiconductor ecosystem through the opening of design centers and collaborative efforts to train design talent.

Onsemi announced on the 11th that it has opened a new design center for cutting-edge semiconductor chips in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

The center encompasses the entire new product development cycle, encompassing a wide range of activities such as integrated circuit design, layout, test development, applications, technology development, project management, and product marketing. The new 3,000-square-meter office space and advanced research lab will reportedly develop technologies for high-temperature and durable applications, isolated drivers for automotive applications, and high-precision components for intelligent sensing.

Acquired by Onsemi in 2008, the Romanian team has continued to grow, exceeding 100 employees and introducing new technologies to develop best-in-class semiconductors.

The new design center is located on The Light One campus in Bucharest. Its proximity to Politehnica, ONSemi's main partner university in Bucharest, makes it ideally located to provide opportunities for outstanding students interested in technological development alongside leading high-tech companies.

Onsemi anticipates further strengthening its existing relationships with universities, where experts teach the latest trends in electronic design and technology. Through this dynamic, cutting-edge technology space, Onsemi plans to continue to grow and expand its semiconductor development activities.

Meanwhile, Onsemi is focusing on strengthening its cutting-edge semiconductor capabilities, including the recent completion of expansion work at its silicon carbide (SiC) plant in Roznov, Czech Republic.
