SKT's smartwatch-based location and health management technology and sensors have made it possible to protect the safety of ship crew members from major accidents.

SK Telecom announced on the 12th that it will exhibit ship safety management solutions, such as a smartwatch-based crew location and health monitoring solution and IoT detection sensors, at the '2022 Korea Safety Industry Expo' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Daegu Metropolitan City.

At this event, SKT will showcase specialized technology for military and coast guard vessels among its safety management solutions linked to serious maritime accidents.

The 'Smartwatch-based Real-time Location Management Technology for Ships' is a technology that identifies the real-time location of smartwatches worn by each crew member through BLE beacon sensors installed in each zone of the ship, enabling initial response in emergency situations such as fires, flooding, or drowning incidents.

The 'Crew Health Management Service' is a solution that enables real-time monitoring of crew members' safety and health by triggering an emergency alarm on a smartwatch if an abnormality occurs in their heart rate.

'Real-time monitoring technology based on fire and temperature/humidity sensors' is due to chemical substances such as oil, given the characteristics of the vessel In preparation for the high fire risk, the difficulties of evacuation in the event of a fire were taken into consideration.

Meanwhile, SKT first unveiled a technology in 2019 that utilizes IoT networks to protect the safety of crew members and passengers on cargo and passenger ships. In 2020, it participated in the government and Navy's 'SMART Navy' project to establish a wireless network system based on LTE and IoT communication on a Korean-type Aegis destroyer, and this year, it is providing related demonstration services to one 3,000-ton class Coast Guard patrol vessel.
