Samsung Electronics Expands 5G Solution Supply to Japan's NTT Docomo

Supply by Japan's Top 2 Mobile Operators Strengthens Position in Japanese Telecom Market
Samsung Electronics has strengthened its position in the Japanese telecommunications market by expanding the supply of 5G mobile telecommunications equipment to Japanese mobile operator NTT DOCOMO.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 30th that, following the signing of a 5G mobile communication equipment supply contract with NTT Docomo last March, it will supply new base stations for major 5G frequency bands owned by NTT Docomo through this additional cooperation.
Japan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world and is a market that places great importance on stable data communication and excellent service quality in densely populated areas, such as urban centers. This additional order for 5G equipment and the expansion of the product portfolio supplied have once again proven Samsung Electronics' 5G technological capabilities in the Japanese market.
The 5G products that Samsung Electronics is providing to NTT Docomo this time include a new ultra-lightweight, ultra-compact 5G radio unit that supports the 28 GHz ultra-high frequency band. This is a lightweight and compact product weighing 4.5kg that is easy to install in urban areas and densely populated user zones, enabling it to effectively support increasing data traffic.
Masafumi Masuda, General Manager of NTT Docomo’s Wireless Access Network Development Division, said, “NTT Docomo has been collaborating with Samsung Electronics since the early days of 5G and is jointly realizing the 5G vision, including Open RAN. We will continue to respond flexibly and quickly to customer needs through continuous network innovation and solidify our global leadership.”
"The key to the mobile telecommunications equipment market lies in building a long-standing relationship of trust between operators and suppliers and making joint investments in next-generation technologies," said Satoshi Iwao, Senior Vice President and Head of Network Business at Samsung Electronics Japan. "We will work together to advance NTT Docomo's 5G network by supplying excellent 5G products based on Samsung's advanced technology."

According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
