Samsung Electronics announced its 2023 regular executive reshuffle on the 5th, with a total of 9 people, including 7 promotions to president and 2 changes in assigned duties.

Key features of this executive reshuffle include the promotion of the vice president who contributed to the growth of the network business to president and the bold appointment of him as head of the business division, and the promotion of the vice president who contributed to the development and strengthening of manufacturing capabilities in the semiconductor business to president, thereby solidifying the company's commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of its core businesses for the future.

Samsung Electronics also added that by implementing a performance-based personnel system and promoting capable and accomplished female vice presidents to president, it has provided female talents with a vision for growth and an opportunity to boldly take on challenges.

Samsung Electronics DX Division Network Business Division Strategic Marketing Team Leader Vice President Woojun Kim has been promoted to President of Samsung Electronics DX Division Network Business Division. President Woo-Jun Kim holds a Ph.D. in electronic engineering from Seoul National University. He is evaluated to have led business growth across various fields of sales, technology, and strategy while serving in key positions such as head of the product strategy group at Samsung Electronics’ network business division, head of the next-generation strategy group, and head of the strategic marketing team.

It is expected that this promotion will solidify the foundation of the next-generation communication-centered network business and contribute to enhancing business competitiveness.

Samsung Electronics DX Division Global Marketing Center Vice President Lee Young-hee has been promoted to President of Samsung Electronics DX Division Global Marketing Office. A marketing expert from L’Oréal, she joined Samsung Electronics in 2007 and has led the company’s growth into a customer value and experience-centered company by creating a Galaxy marketing success story and contributing significantly to enhancing Samsung Electronics’ brand value.

After her promotion to president, she is expected to bring new vitality to the organization as the first female president of Samsung Electronics, while demonstrating capabilities such as customer-centered marketing innovation.

Samsung Electronics DS Division Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Headquarters Vice President Nam Seok-woo was promoted to the same division’s Manufacturing President. As a semiconductor process development and manufacturing expert, he led the development of all memory products at the Semiconductor Research Institute, and while serving as the head of the Memory/Foundry Manufacturing Technology Center and as the head of Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Headquarters, he contributed to strengthening semiconductor process and manufacturing competitiveness.

Samsung Electronics DS Division Semiconductor Research Institute Vice President Song Jae-hyuk has been promoted to CTO and President of Samsung Electronics DS Division Semiconductor Research Institute. By demonstrating technological leadership in the entire semiconductor process from DRAM/flash memory process development to mass production, the company contributed to achieving global No. 1 in the memory business.

With his promotion to president, President Song Jae-hyuk will lead the development of advanced processes for all semiconductor products as CTO of the semiconductor business and take the lead in strengthening semiconductor technology competitiveness.

Samsung Electronics DX Division Communication Team Leader Baek Soo-hyun, Vice President, was promoted to President of the DX Division Communication Team. He is a PR expert who started out as a deputy director at SBS News. After joining Samsung Electronics in 2013, he served as the head of the domestic PR group and the head of the communications team, contributing to revitalizing communication not only within the company but also with the outside world.

Park Seung-hee, Vice President of Samsung C&T Construction Communications Team, has been promoted to President of Samsung Electronics CR (Corporate Relations). A media relations expert who was formerly the editor-in-chief of JoongAng Ilbo, he has served as the head of Samsung C&T Construction Communications Team since December 2020.

Samsung Electronics China Strategy Cooperation Office Vice President Yang Jie has been promoted to President of Samsung Electronics China Strategy Cooperation Office. As a semiconductor sales and marketing expert with experience in various overseas sales corporations, he has served as China General Manager and China Strategy Cooperation Office Vice President, contributing to the expansion of businesses in China, including semiconductors.

Samsung Electronics DX Division Network Business Division President Kyunghoon Jeon's duties have been changed to CTO of Samsung Electronics DX Division and President of Samsung Research. He is a communications technology expert who was formerly a professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology. After joining Samsung Electronics in 2012, he served as the head of the Next-Generation Communications Research Team, the head of the Network Development Team, and the head of the Network Business Division, contributing to the growth of the network business by achieving achievements such as the world's first commercialization of 5G.

Based on his technological leadership and strategic vision, he is expected to oversee preliminary research on the DX business as head of Samsung Research and lead the discovery of future growth engines for Samsung Electronics.

Seung Hyun-jun, President of Samsung Research at Samsung Electronics DX Division, has been changed to President of Global R&D Cooperation at Samsung Research at Samsung Electronics DX Division. As a top expert in the field of AI, he is expected to continue to utilize his excellent research capabilities and global network to strengthen R&D cooperation with major overseas universities and advanced research institutes and focus on recruiting excellent global talent.

Samsung Electronics hoped that by maintaining the existing two-CEO system, it would be able to secure management stability in an uncertain domestic and international environment, while at the same time creating an opportunity to leap forward as a customer-centered, first-class company through bold changes and innovations in preparation for the future.
