A recall order has been issued for 58 products, including electric heating pads and heat packs, which pose a fire risk due to temperature increases exceeding the standard limit.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Director Lee Sang-hoon) conducted safety investigations on 1,387 products across 56 categories, including winter goods (heating products, winter clothing, etc.), water pipe freezers (heating wires), and snow tires, which see increased demand during the winter season, and announced the results on the 19th.

As a result of the investigation, 58 products were found to have violated safety standards, such as temperature rise and detection of harmful substances, and orders to collect the products (hereinafter referred to as recall orders) were issued to the relevant businesses in accordance with Article 11 of the Framework Act on Product Safety and Article 10 of the Special Act on Safety of Children's Products.

It was confirmed that 12 products, including electric mats, electric heating pads, and electric cushions, which are representative winter heating products, were found to be non-compliant with safety standards for temperature rise (exceeding the standard temperature by up to 2.6 times, etc.) and pose a fire risk, and that 17 products, including winter clothing for infants and children, were found to contain harmful substances (lead, phthalate plasticizers, nonylphenol, etc.) (exceeding the standard limit by up to 168 times, etc.), raising concerns about potential harm to children's safety.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards has disclosed information on 58 products subject to recall orders on the Product Safety Information Center (www.safetykorea.go.kr) and Consumer 24 (www.consumer.go.kr), enabling consumers using the recalled products to receive measures such as repair, exchange, or refund through the relevant business operators.

In addition, it provides recall product information to consumer groups, local governments, and relevant ministries, and links with approximately 220,000 retail stores and online shopping malls nationwide.It was registered in the hazardous product sales blocking system to block distribution in the market.
