The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI, President Shin Hee-dong) is pursuing global cooperation in the energy sector to reduce carbon emissions in Vietnam's regional industries.

KETI announced on the 23rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam Energy Research Institute and Doosan Energy Ability Co., Ltd. in Hanoi, Vietnam on the 22nd (local time) regarding research cooperation on the adoption of ammonia co-firing technology in Vietnam.

The Vietnam Institute of Energy (IE) is a national energy research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, responsible for developing core energy-related technologies and formulating policies, including the national energy strategy.

Doosan Enerbility Co., Ltd. is a domestic company specializing in eco-friendly energy that provides integrated solutions in the fields of energy, including gas turbines, nuclear power, and renewable energy, as well as desalination. In particular, the company is currently developing the nation's only ammonia co-firing power generation technology and has participated in numerous energy infrastructure construction projects in Vietnam through its local subsidiary, Doosan Vina.

KETI possesses numerous core technologies in the electronics and IT fields for increasing energy efficiency and digital transformation, and has been focusing on spreading advanced technologies for carbon neutrality in local communities, such as by hosting the 'Artificial Intelligence Competition for Sustainable Energy Utilization' last September.

The three institutions agreed to achieve ammonia co-firing power generation and power plant modernization that can contribute to reducing carbon emissions in Vietnam by specifically pursuing the formation of a task force (TF), technical consultations among researchers, and the identification of areas for joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as ammonia co-firing power generation in Vietnam.

KETI Vice President Lee Kyu-bok (Senior Research Division Head) stated, “With the signing of this MOU, KETI will strive to generate cooperation results in the energy sector in Vietnam, an emerging market, by collaborating with domestic industries and excellent overseas research institutions,” adding, “In the future, we will continue to expand the institute’s global R&D network to actively support domestic companies’ entry into overseas markets based on advanced electronics and IT technologies.”
