SK Telecom is showcasing its green ICT capabilities on the global stage.

SK Telecom announced that it will jointly operate an exhibition booth of approximately 1,200 square meters with SK affiliates at the world's largest IT and consumer electronics exhibition, 'International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023,' held in Las Vegas, USA, from the 5th to the 8th (local time).

SKT is exhibiting Urban Air Mobility (UAM), the AI semiconductor 'SAPEON', and a renewable energy Virtual Power Plant under the theme of 'Action for 2030 Net Zero'.

Among them, the life-sized UAM virtual experience simulator placed in the exhibition hall caught the eye.

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is an overall transportation system based on electric-powered eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft, and is attracting attention as a next-generation eco-friendly mode of transportation.

SK Telecom is leading the technology for commercialization in 2025 by participating in the Phase 1 demonstration project of the 'Korean Urban Air Mobility Grand Challenge (K-UAM Grand Challenge)' organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, together with Korea Airports Corporation, Hanwha Systems, Korea Meteorological Industry & Technology Institute, and Korea Land Information Corporation, in order to serve as an integrated provider of UAM services.

In particular, SKT announced on this day that its Sapion AI semiconductor assists in the operation of UAM aircraft. It introduced technologies such as a virtual power plant supplying power to the aircraft and vertiports (landing and takeoff areas).

Sapion is an AI semiconductor developed in-house by SK Telecom that executes large-scale computations required for AI service implementation at ultra-high speeds and with low power consumption. Having successfully developed and commercialized Korea's first AI semiconductor for data centers (X220), the company is gradually expanding the scope of commercial services to broaden the AI market.

An SKT official stated, “At this CES, SKT is showcasing Green ICT for achieving Net Zero as a leading ICT company,” adding, “We will promote SKT’s eco-friendly technology on the global stage so that the whole world can join in and practice achieving Net Zero.”
