NVIDIA announced that it will build Mercedes-Benz's state-of-the-art factory using the NVIDIA Omniverse platform.

At CES 2023, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would raise the level of digitalization in its vehicle production processes by using the NVIDIA Omniverse platform to design and plan manufacturing and assembly facilities.

Mercedes-Benz has been able to reduce energy consumption and continuously improve quality by utilizing NVIDIA AI and metaverse technology to create feedback loops.

Mercedes-Benz has been collaborating with NVIDIA for vehicle development. Future product lines are set to be built on NVIDIA DRIVE Orin centralized computing. This is an intelligent drive capability tested and verified on the NVIDIA DRIVE Sim platform built on Omniverse.

With this announcement, Mercedes-Benz stated that it would incorporate AI and metaverse technology into the vehicle development process through more efficient manufacturing.

Mercedes-Benz plans to start production of a new dedicated electric vehicle platform at its Rastatt plant in Germany. Currently, this factory manufactures the Mercedes-Benz A and B Class, the compact SUV GLA, and the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQA.

Experts are establishing a 'Digital First' planning process for factories on-site that will not disrupt the production of current compact car models. This blueprint is set to be extended to other parts of the global Mercedes-Benz production network to enable faster vehicle manufacturing.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA Omniverse is an open 3D development platform that enables companies and organizations across all industries to build and operate digital twins for industrial and scientific use cases. Based on Universal Scene Description (USD), it allows enterprises and developers to build custom 3D pipelines to analyze data silos and interact with a single source view of aggregated simulations.

Through Omniverse, Mercedes-Benz designers can access the factory's digital twin to review and optimize the factory as needed. All changes are rapidly evaluated and verified in the virtual world before being implemented in the real world to maximize the efficiency and ergonomics of factory workers.

Mercedes-Benz connects Omniverse with its in-house MO360 data platform to synchronize factory locations anywhere in the world. This feature streamlines operations across the global production network and enables wireless software updates for manufacturing equipment.
