Mouser announced today that it is now stocking the RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor (MPU) from Renesas Electronics.

Expanding on Renesas' Arm® CPU core-based MPUs, the RZ/Five is the first general-purpose MPU to hit the market based on the Andes AX45MP, leveraging the RISC-V CPU instruction set architecture (ISA).

The enhanced 64-bit RISC-V MPU provides users with greater flexibility by providing tools and building blocks to help get to market faster, including support from Renesas' RZ partner ecosystem.

The Renesas RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor from Mouser Electronics is a single-core 64-bit processor with a maximum operating frequency of 1 GHz.

This MPU product features 128KB of embedded SRAM with ECC and a 16-bit DDR4-1600 or DDR3L-1333 memory interface with inline ECC supporting up to 4GB of RAM.

Peripheral features include two Gigabit Ethernet MAC channels, two USupport for various interfaces is included, including SB 2.0 channels and two serial CAN/CAN-FD interfaces.

Additional features of the RZ/Five include a 2-channel, 12-bit ADC, a thermal sensor, four I2C interfaces, three SPI interfaces, and GPIO.

Additionally, for security support, this MPU includes 1Kbit of OTP memory, secure boot, crypto engine, and secure JTAG.

The peripheral features and package of the RZ/Five are pin-compatible with those of the Arm core-based RZ/G2UL, providing additional design flexibility by allowing easy reuse of existing proven designs.

The RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor is available in a 13mm x 13mm BGA-361 or 11mm x 11mm BGA-266 package.

The BGA-361 option includes a two-channel Gigabit Ethernet interface, and the BGA-266 option includes a single-channel Gigabit Ethernet interface. Both packages offer a 0.5mm pitch.

The RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor, specifically developed for Internet of Things (IoT) endpoint devices, is ideal for applications such as industrial gateways used in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) or entry-level social infrastructure control and industrial control, respectively.

Additionally, this microprocessor product offers long-term Linux support through the Verified Linux Package (VLP) with Civil Infrastructure Platform™ (CIP) Linux, making it suitable for use in enterprise infrastructure and industrial applications that require high reliability and extended service life.

Mouser also offers the RZ/Five Evaluation Board Kit, which provides a complete demonstration and development platform for evaluating and developing the microprocessor. Available for purchase on the Mouser website, the kit consists of a system-on-module (SOM) board and a carrier board, and includes various interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet, CAN, and USB 2.0.
