Expectations for Auto Parts Companies to Expand into the Middle East

The Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATI), together with Changwon City and Kwangshin Machinery Industry, is taking the lead in establishing a hydrogen mobility industry ecosystem by partnering with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to lay the foundation for domestic hydrogen industry companies to enter the Middle Eastern market.

Na Seung-sik, President of the Korea Association of Industrial Technology, Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon, and Kwon Hwan-ju, CEO of Kwangshin Machinery Industry, were at Palah Al-Ababi (HE It was announced on the 17th that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for business cooperation to promote hydrogen mobility was signed at the Korea-UAE Business Forum held at Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on the 16th (local time) after meeting with Falah Al Ahbabi, Minister of Government Administration and Transport of Abu Dhabi.

This forum, hosted by the Korea International Trade Association and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, was organized to strengthen future-oriented economic cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the energy, nuclear, and defense industries, with the participation of key government officials and representatives from companies and organizations in both countries.

The government of the United Arab Emirates has announced the 'Hydrogen Leadership Roadmap,' the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, and is developing a plan to foster a sustainable hydrogen industry with the goal of capturing 25% of the global hydrogen market by 2050 through the creation of new value through the export of low-carbon hydrogen derivatives, attracting investment in companies related to the hydrogen industry, and operating green buses as part of a decarbonization program.

Following the signing of the MOU, plans are underway to establish an ecosystem for Abu Dhabi's low-carbon hydrogen policy, including the deployment and infrastructure development of hydrogen mobility and charging stations between the two countries, as well as the expansion of domestic hydrogen companies into the Middle East.

The specific contents of the MOU include sharing design plans for hydrogen plants, hydrogen charging stations, and hydrogen buses; cooperation in the operation and maintenance of hydrogen buses; establishment of hydrogen charging infrastructure; exchange of expert human resources to foster specialized hydrogen technology; and identification of international joint R&D hydrogen projects.

Na Seung-sik, President of the Korea Automotive Research Institute, stated, “Through the signing of a mutual cooperation MOU for the dissemination of hydrogen mobility with Abu Dhabi, Changwon City, and Kwangshin Machinery, an opportunity has been created for domestic hydrogen bus and hydrogen charging station technologies to enter the Middle Eastern market,” and"We will strive to develop hydrogen buses suitable for the high-temperature climate of the UAE in collaboration with the government, automakers, and auto parts companies, so that they can serve as a bridgehead for the domestic automotive industry to expand into overseas markets," he said.

In addition, prior to the MOU signing ceremony, Hanjayeon attended the Hydrogen Mobility Forum hosted by Changwon City and the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), where they shared the current status of the domestic hydrogen industry and technological trends, and formed a consensus on the future value of hydrogen.

HE Abdullah Mohammed Maatouq Al Marzouqi attended the Hydrogen Mobility Forum, held as an ITC roundtable, where he conveyed the current status of transportation in Abu Dhabi and his commitment to building hydrogen-based infrastructure, emphasizing close communication and cooperation between the two countries.
