STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company supporting a wide range of electronic applications and customers, has expanded its dual-channel high-speed digital isolator family to enhance flexibility, enabling designers to optimize board layouts.

ST announced that it recently launched the dual-channel high-speed digital isolator 'STISO620'.

The new STISO620 includes two channels with the same directionality, and all digital inputs and all digital outputs are isolated on both sides by an insulating film.

This device is a new addition to ST's family of digital isolators, along with the STISO621 and STISO621W, which provide one channel in each direction.

This product family provides a convenient solution for many applications that require separating two digital signals and transmitting digital communication through an insulating layer with flexible directionality.

All insulators are based on ST's 6kV thick oxide technology, which ensures robust galvanic isolation.

Designed to maintain insulation integrity even during system failures and aging, it enhances the reliability of industrial and consumer applications. These applications include smart grid equipment, utility meters, motor drives, smart building and lighting systems, and home appliances, as well as power supplies, inverters, fieldbus isolators, and battery monitors.

It can be used as a replacement for optical couplers in any field and guarantees excellent performance over the long term.

The STISO620 provides high noise immunity with a switching speed of up to 100 Mbit/s and pulse distortion of less than 3 ns through two Schmitt-Trigger inputs.

STISO620 is housed in an SO8N narrow-body package with a creepage and clearance of 4 mm, capable of withstanding a 4,000 Vpeak impulse voltage (VIOTM), and provides a maximum operating isolation voltage (VIOWM) of 849 Vrms and an isolation voltage (VISO) of 2,830 Vrms.

The main insulation parameters have been tested according to VDE0884-10 and UL 1577 safety standards, and all insulators have obtained UL 1577 certification.

STISO620 and STISO621, and STISO621W based on the SO8W wide-body package, are currently in production, and the price is $0.93 for a purchase of 1,000 units.

The EVALSTISO62XV1 evaluation board costs $40.76 and supports users in easily starting projects using each product, and can be purchased from distributors and the ST e-store.
